Last day of camp and 20 minutes left of Tempo Livre (free time), so I thought I would take a few minutes to update everyone on life here in Bateias, Brazil.
The weather is typical mountain weather, sometimes sunny, hot and muggy and other times cloudy, rainy and quite cool. I just came showered after completing some competitive water sports. . . in the rain. (SO cold!) We had so much fun going down the water slide! I'll have to post some pictures soon.
Camp is going smoothly. I think we have around 100 attendees. The youth seem to be thoroughly enjoying all the events and responding to the challenging messages. Becky has been translating the sessions for me, for which I'm so grateful. I'm being blessed and encouraged.
You may not be aware, the purpose of this camp is to get the kids off the streets during the notorious Carnival. (A 4-day fling before the beginning of Lent. The festival is celebrated in extreme carnality--much like Mardi Gras, but even more lascivious.)
There are a number of campers here who are able to speak English, which has been an immense blessing. These past 5 weeks have taught me much about going to the Lord for everything. I've never experienced such isolation being around so many people!
I'm late for dinner already, so I'll write more later. But, many of you have asked for an update--so I wanted to post something. ;-)
The end of my time here is quickly approaching--I leave this Friday. Please continue to pray. Pray I am able to get everything done that I want to do before I leave (last minute shopping and tours, etc.) Pray my bags are under the weight limit with all these extra trinkets! ;-) Oh, and, no time to explain, but pray for my spider bite!
Much Love,
Karyn
What beautiful green grass!
